Guest Speaker -- John Brown on "The Great Resignation"

Guest speaker event hosted by the DeVry student chapter of the Society of Human Resource Professionals (SHRM).  They have been gracious enough to open up the event to Delta Mu Delta Members.

Speaker Background

  John Brown was appointed Chief People Officer in January 2022 and leads Lee’s Summit-based GEHA’s human resources, strategically scaling people and culture to support company growth. With almost 30 years of experience, he is akin to successful change management, transformational management initiatives and driving a people-oriented approach to leadership. Prior to joining GEHA, John was Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana (“BCBSLA”). There, he developed and launched strategies behind diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, earning the company various awards for his efforts. John also led the improvement of the company’s pre-pandemic work from home program, resulting in participation rates moving from under 10% in 2017 to over 30% in 2019. This shift to a more flexible work environment helped BCBSLA more seamlessly shift to a 100% remote workforce during the pandemic in 2020.  Prior to BCBSLA, John held senior-level operations roles with Humana and Marsh USA, a start-up organization focused on back-office client service in the insurance industry. John also spent time in operations roles with Aetna, and he got his start in call center management in telecom working with both SBC and AT&T.

  John, a Kansas City area native, graduated from Lincoln College Prepartory Academy in Kansas City. Post high school, he originally attended and played football at Kansas State University, ultimately earning his degree from DeVry Institute of Technology - a BS in Electronics Engineering. He is SHRM-SCP certified through the Society for Human Rescources Management. John is highly active in his community and served on the Board of Directors for multiple organizations, including: 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, Capital Area United Way, and Our Future Our Family.
